Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Second Edition: The Process and Practice of Mindful Change By Steven C Hayes PhD

Acceptance

The philosophical bases of ACT may be an impediment for some readers , since the language tends toward the imprecision that plagues many books of this type. I particularly dislike the tendency of many psychological texts to redefine common words with an idiosyncratic meaning for example, verbal, in this text (it would take to long to explain). I also tend to cringe when authors tell you to pronounce the therapy name as act rather than ae cee tee as a way of showing you are really one of the experts. (Since act is a noun and a verb with already established meanings, it is bound to be confusing and off putting to others). If you can get past that, the rest of this book is truly an impressive and coherent explication of the principles and techniques of this therapy, easy to read and replete with excellent examples to illustrate the perspective and approach.
